Today we were excited to kick off our first full day with absolutely no plans until dinner. We first went to get breakfast, which if we hadn’t just had the experience we did in Singapore would probably have been the best hotel breakfast we’ve ever had. We especially loved the fresh coconuts and made-to-order eggs.
Then, we walked down the beach and scoped out where we wanted to park ourselves for the day. We hiked back to the room, got ready to veg out and trekked back down the hill before settling on a private cabana, that we were surprised was unoccupied. We quickly realized why: the cabana being surrounded by trees meant that the cicadas were gracing us with their 100+ decibel songs and, eventually, signaling to us that we should perhaps move to the quieter pool area. It was deafeningly loud.
We chilled by the pool for a couple of hours and got just a little too much sun while some of us took advantage of the buy one get one happy hour drinks. One of the hotel's best amenities is a button you can press from your lounge chair, which immediately summons a staff member to take your drink order! We're living in the future here.
On our way back to the room before dinner, we booked massages for tomorrow, which I am particularly excited about as this will be my first ever massage experience!
Dinner was at KoDam Kitchen, which was about a half hour off property in downtown Krabi near the Night Market. There was a long line to get seated and even rows of chairs for people waiting, but luckily with some good old fashioned American entitlement, I found someone to lead us to our table as we had made a reservation ahead of time.
We got a bunch of Thai dishes, which were all so good! We got:
Pineapple fried rice with shrimp (served in a pineapple)
Pad Thai, which was different and better than any we had eaten back home
Panang curry with chicken
Veggie spring rolls
A giant Chang beer for me
We were feeling the festive spirit as it was Christmas Eve, and people around us were dressed up in their holiday best and giving each other presents. Since this was our first real Thai meal (albeit at a restaurant filled with tourists), it'll be interesting to see how the other stack up. All told, our bill came out to less than $20 USD for a meal that could have fed us for the rest of the week!
We then had the restaurant arrange a cab back to the hotel, which ended up being essentially a covered pickup truck with a light up sound system for us to DJ on the way home. The driver was adamant that we blast music, pulling over on the side of the road to show us how to connect to the Bluetooth speakers and amping the volume all the way up!

We put on America’s Top Songs of 2024 to draw as much attention to ourselves as possible and to introduce the Krabi locals to the uncensored version of Not Like Us by Kendrick Lamar!
When we got back, it was Emily who was the sleepiest so we went straight to bed to rest up for another relaxing day in paradise. More laying around to come tomorrow, Christmas Day!
Love,
Max & Emily
